Storm Hole
Quality:

Levels:
5.5-6.7 ft If you can see current in the center channel though
the upper break, Storm is probably running, if it looks scary, storm is
probably washed out, and Rumble Pit may
be in.
Location: River
Right in
the Storm Channel, about halfway between the upper and lower breaks.
Getting There: Ferry
across the
Main Channel from the put-in or Powerline
to the upper break.
Attain or carry the break, and paddle downstream to the hole
Eddy service: Fair to Poor
Skill Level:
Advanced. The right side can be sticky at low water. Also
be aware that the rock downstream of the hole collects logs
Description: Storm
Hole
is the crown jewel of Holtwood playboating, and is one of the first
spots to come in. At lower levels,
Storm takes the form of a cartwheel hole, with a boily eddy in the
middle. As the water rises, the eddy washes out, requiring a short
carry back up the island between rides. At these levels, it
becomes a stellar hole with a big fluffy foam pile. With
even more water, the foampile starts to wash out, while the river left
side, "The Pit," becomes friendlier, and eventually turns into a big,
steep wave. It's sometimes possible to paddle into The Pit from
the river left eddy.
